BC Hydro has energized its first-ever portable skid-mounted fast charging station in Lumby, marking a breakthrough in how electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure can be deployed quickly and flexibly across British Columbia. The skid-mounted station is a fully self-contained unit built on a metal frame and is designed for rapid deployment with minimal civil construction. All cabling is completed and CSA-approved at the factory, and power is delivered via overhead service from a nearby transformer pole – eliminating the need for underground excavation. This design is ideal for sites with complex permitting, northern regions with short construction windows due to winter weather conditions, or temporary installations for events and emergencies.

BC Hydro’s public charging network has reached a significant milestone and now offers more than 700 electric vehicle (EV) charging ports provincewide. This latest expansion comes as BC Hydro is incorporating 88 charging ports at 28 EV charging sites that were previously operated by the Ministry of Transportation and Transit. “Surpassing more than 700 charging ports is a clear reflection of BC Hydro’s commitment and leadership in building a reliable and accessible EV public charging network across British Columbia,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions.

BC Hydro has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) charging hub at the Langley Events Centre with 16 new charging ports to help support EV adoption in the Lower Mainland. The location is now one of the largest public fast-charging locations in the region with capacity to charge up to 18 EVs at the same time. “This newly expanded charge hub in Langley continues our work with BC Hydro and other partners to make cleaner options more accessible and affordable for all British Columbians,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions.
