BC Hydro has energized its first-ever portable skid-mounted fast charging station in Lumby, marking a breakthrough in how electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure can be deployed quickly and flexibly across British Columbia. The skid-mounted station is a fully self-contained unit built on a metal frame and is designed for rapid deployment with minimal civil construction. All cabling is completed and CSA-approved at the factory, and power is delivered via overhead service from a nearby transformer pole – eliminating the need for underground excavation. This design is ideal for sites with complex permitting, northern regions with short construction windows due to winter weather conditions, or temporary installations for events and emergencies.
BC Hydro’s public charging network has reached a significant milestone and now offers more than 700 electric vehicle (EV) charging ports provincewide. This latest expansion comes as BC Hydro is incorporating 88 charging ports at 28 EV charging sites that were previously operated by the Ministry of Transportation and Transit. “Surpassing more than 700 charging ports is a clear reflection of BC Hydro’s commitment and leadership in building a reliable and accessible EV public charging network across British Columbia,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions.
Electric Mobility Canada (EMC) welcomes the federal government’s commitment to advancing clean transportation as part of its climate competitiveness strategy unveiled in Budget 2025. While some new measures support Canada’s industrial capacity, clean energy sector, and domestic supply chain, the lack of clarity around key zero-emission vehicle programs leaves some questions about the federal government’s path forward on electrification. “This budget is one more step toward a cleaner transportation future. Now, we need more clarity on implementation to ensure all Canadians benefit from electric mobility policies,” stated Daniel Breton, President and CEO, Electric Mobility Canada.
Manitoba Hydro has chosen the communities where the utility’s first electric vehicle (EV) charging stations will be located, a major step to creating the province’s only publicly owned EV charging network. The initial phase of the project will see the installation of six EV charging sites between Winnipeg and Thompson, closing a major gap in Manitoba’s current EV charging network.
The Province is updating its zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) framework to maintain electric vehicle (EV) momentum. Legislative changes are also under development that strengthen B.C.’s commitment to cleaner transportation, while ensuring affordability, consumer choice and support for automakers. To maintain B.C.’s leadership in zero-emission vehicle adoption, the Province intends to introduce legislative updates in spring 2026. These updates will recalibrate B.C.’s targets and will be informed by the CleanBC review and ongoing consultations with consumers and industry.
Vianode, a Norwegian producer of advanced battery materials, has officially started recent site preparation at its new synthetic graphite facility Via TWO in St. Thomas, Ontario. The project is a major milestone in Vianode’s North American expansion plans and set to bring hundreds of new high-skilled jobs to the region. The site preparation marks the formal start of the project to establish North America’s largest production facility for low-emission synthetic anode graphite, with operations set to begin in 2028. Anode graphite is a critical component in electric vehicle (EV) batteries and other strategic industries, including energy storage.
ABB has been awarded the Platinum medal from EcoVadis with a score of 84 out of a possible 100 points, placing the company among the top one percent of 130,000 companies assessed worldwide. EcoVadis is a trusted provider of business sustainability ratings offering a standardized, data-driven framework that allows companies to compare supplier performance. ABB improved its score by nine points since last year. EcoVadis looks for evidence that policies have been implemented and are delivering measurable results.
As the world transitions to cleaner transportation, the Government of Canada is investing to make sure the country has the charging infrastructure Canadians need to feel confident driving an electric vehicle (EV). Recently, David Myles, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages and to the Secretary of State (Nature), on behalf of the Honourable Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced over $10 million in federal funding to help pave the way for EV adoption.

ChargePoint has recently announced it has been awarded a Sourcewell cooperative purchasing contract to provide EV charging solutions to public agencies in the U.S. and Canada. The award represents ChargePoint’s third consecutive agreement with Sourcewell, dating back to 2017. Through the agreement, entities such as municipalities, transit authorities, and public schools can deploy ChargePoint EV chargers, software, and services through a streamlined procurement process with preferred pricing.

BC Hydro has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) charging hub at the Langley Events Centre with 16 new charging ports to help support EV adoption in the Lower Mainland. The location is now one of the largest public fast-charging locations in the region with capacity to charge up to 18 EVs at the same time. “This newly expanded charge hub in Langley continues our work with BC Hydro and other partners to make cleaner options more accessible and affordable for all British Columbians,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions.
On October 3, the federal government announced over $5 million in federal funding for five projects through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emissions Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP). These investments will make it easier for people and businesses in Atlantic Canada to switch to EVs by building chargers where Canadians live, work, and travel. New EV chargers are being installed at workplaces, public on-street parking and multi-unit residential buildings in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island. The projects also include funding for two Indigenous organizations to install EV chargers serving a highway retail hub and the Halifax International Airport.
