Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Initiatives Across New Brunswick

March 17, 2025

Reducing energy consumption can make life much more affordable for Canadians, which is what zero emission initiatives aim for.

Fuel-efficient driving, such as making the switch to an electric vehicle (EV) can also save hundreds of dollars in fuel each year and prevent vehicle wear and tear. Since 2016, Canada has invested over $1 billion to make EV chargers more affordable and accessible for Canadians, and these investments are supporting the establishment of a coast-to-coast network of chargers in local areas where Canadians live, work, travel and play.

To support energy savings, the Government of Canada is announcing funding for three New Brunswick zero emission projects with a focus on energy efficiency and affordability:

Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP)

  • $1.2 million in funding for Irving Oil to install 16 EV fast chargers at key retail locations in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to support the growing demand for electric vehicle charging on Canada’s highways.
  • $190,000 in funding for the Power Commission of the City of Saint John to install 10 EV chargers at key publicly available locations in New Brunswick to support the growing demand for electric vehicle charging in the province.

Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program (SREPS)

  • $1.5 million in funding for the “Estop Plus Electric Vehicle Charging Service Stations” project, which will support studies, assessments and the engagement of local Indigenous communities related to the construction of two full-service electric vehicle charging stations located along the TransCanada Highway on Indigenous-owned land on the eastern and western borders of New Brunswick.
