Leviton Introduces TrueArc™ AFCI Technology to Reduce Nuisance Tripping in Modern Homes

New technology delivers no-nonsense AFCI protection for modern homes

News Summary

  • Modern electronics can produce complex electrical signatures that can resemble fault conditions, resulting in unnecessarily tripped breakers, or “nuisance tripping.”
  • Leviton’s new TrueArc AFCI technology combines advanced sensing capabilities and machine learning-based analysis to help distinguish routine electrical activity from potentially hazardous arc-fault conditions.
  • TrueArc technology is available in Leviton AFCI and Dual Function AFCI/GFCI breakers for Leviton Load Centers.

Leviton announced the launch of TrueArc™ AFCI Technology on October 14, 2026, a next-generation advancement in AFCI circuit protection now available in Leviton AFCI and Dual Function AFCI/GFCI breakers for Leviton Load Centers. Developed through years of research, development, testing and real-world field evaluation, this technology helps prevent unnecessary tripping resulting from electrical signatures that resemble faults, or nuisance tripping, while maintaining protection that meets UL 1699 AFCI requirements and supports NEC® AFCI compliance requirements.

Leviton’s new TrueArc AFCI Technology is engineered to minimize nuisance tripping and has been extensively tested in real-world field installations across the United States and Canada.

As homes utilize more electronics, connected devices, LED lighting, efficient appliances, EV chargers and switching power supplies, their increasingly complex electrical signatures can resemble fault conditions. TrueArc technology provides advanced circuit protection that can better distinguish normal electrical activity from a genuine arc fault with maximum efficiency. This helps prevent contractors from having to take troubleshooting phone calls from homeowners or making site callbacks.

“Electrical professionals have made it clear that reducing nuisance tripping remains one of the biggest opportunities for improvement in AFCI protection,” said Aaron Ard, Vice President of Residential Product Management at Leviton. “TrueArc technology delivers the performance contractors have been asking for, significantly reducing nuisance tripping, while maintaining the protection required by modern safety standards. It’s a no-nonsense AFCI solution built for today’s homes and tomorrow’s electrical loads.”

TrueArc AFCI technology combines a newly developed high-resolution sensing platform with a powerful processor that uses machine learning-based classification to continuously evaluate electrical patterns. By providing more information for analysis, the enhanced platform helps the breaker distinguish normal appliance operation and complex electronic loads from conditions that may indicate a true arc-fault hazard.

To validate performance, Leviton conducted extensive field trials with electrical professionals throughout North America and collaborated with major appliance manufacturers to evaluate compatibility across a broad range of residential electrical loads. The technology was specifically developed to improve immunity to common contributors to nuisance tripping, including high-frequency electrical noise and activity occurring on neighboring circuits.

The result is a future-ready AFCI platform designed for modern homes filled with electronics and sophisticated electrical loads. By better distinguishing normal appliance behavior from genuine fault conditions, TrueArc technology can help electrical professionals reduce troubleshooting visits and callbacks, improve homeowner satisfaction and spend less time diagnosing unwanted trips.
