How To Select EV Charging Solutions Compliant to Safety Standards and Regulations

April 16, 2025

Safety is a key priority when talking about electrical equipment to be used for the general public, such as electric vehicle chargers which may be located outdoors, in a wet environment, and with children around. Protect people from any risk is Schneider Electric’s motto and part of its DNA.

Charging an electric vehicle requires a connection to a powerful electricity supply. Electrical safety is of paramount importance to avoid short-circuits, overheating fires, or electric shocks.

Those safety measures are provided by circuit-breakers, residual current devices of type B installed on the switchboard, and surge protective devices, complying with their relevant product standards. However, some manufacturers claim for built-in protective devices or embedded protection on the chargers.

How safe are those solutions? How do you select an EV charging solution compliant with safety standards and regulations?

Find the answers on the following whitepaper, where Schneider’s experts summarize the protective measures required by the International Standards and explain how to identify if protection against electric shocks, overcurrents, or overvoltages are correctly implemented.
