HPS Launches New EV Charging Distribution Transformer

Hammond Power Solutions (HPS) is supporting the growth of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure with the launch of its new EV charging distribution transformer. Engineered for reliability, energy efficiency, and performance, this transformer meets the demanding conditions of today’s growing EV market.

The HPS EV charging distribution transformer is designed to meet the unique electrical demands of high-volume and fast-charging installations. Certain DC fast chargers can introduce high harmonic currents, which may lead to overheating in transformers. HPS offers k-factor and harmonic mitigating transformers to help manage these harmonic loads, ensuring long-term reliability and performance. For warmer climates, low-temperature rise options are available to reduce the risk of overheating and support consistent performance.

“Our new EV charging distribution transformer is designed to meet the real-world challenges faced by our customers,” said David Kinsella, Chief Commercial Officer at HPS. “By addressing issues like harmonic load management, we are enhancing the reliability and efficiency of EV infrastructure. This product, along with our other EV solutions, demonstrates our commitment to supporting the evolving needs of the market.”

For added protection in outdoor or publicly accessible areas, the EV distribution transformer can be paired with the optional HPS 3RE+ enclosure. This tested, UL-certified solution is designed to shield against severe weather, airborne particles, and limit contact with live components. The integrated louvers and filters provide extra protection against heavy, blowing rain and snow. A variety of color options including white, are available to integrate with the aesthetics of EV charging stations.

Installers benefit from features that reduce time and cost on site, including pre-installed components such as grounding lugs, terminal boards, knock-outs, and mounting brackets.

To prevent downtime, the optional IoT connected power meter enables proactive monitoring of the transformer’s health, supporting predictive maintenance and long-term uptime. HPS is powering the future of EV infrastructure by delivering solutions that are built for today’s real-world applications and tomorrow’s demand. This product expands HPS’s growing portfolio of EV solutions including autotransformers, encapsulated transformers, medium voltage transformers, and mini power centres.
