Celebrate the Road to Electrification with PowerON at The 2nd EV & Charging Expo- Booth 321

May 1, 2024

PowerON commissioned artwork by Indigenous student artist Roma Maré
As the renewables industry gathers in Toronto for the second EV & Charging Expo, an electrification success story is unfolding right here in the city with PowerON.

This year, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport will be introducing six 100% electric buses to replace the existing diesel-powered fleet that transports customers between the airport and Union Station.

PowerON was responsible for the charging infrastructure that resides both on the mainland passenger drop-off area and the island side. To commemorate this milestone, PowerON commissioned Indigenous artist Roma Mare to design a custom charger wrap situated in the main passenger drop-off area, which welcomes more than 2 million travelers per year.

This unique piece represents the connection between the land, water, clean electricity system, and the electric buses here at Billy Bishop on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit. To promote awareness of Indigenous languages, an Anishinaabemowin Ojibwe phrase is written on the charger to greet fellow travelers.

Everyone is invited visit PowerON Booth 321 to see a replica version of this charger, built to commemorate the upcoming one-year anniversary of the project and the arrival of the electric buses. There is a QR code to scan and learn more about the meaning of the Ojibwe phrase, and the meanings behind the artwork, paying homage to Ontario’s vast river systems that reside on the traditional territories of several nations. These river systems were the first source of clean electricity that powered the province. As you probably have heard by now, the Niagara River and Sir Adam Beck Generating Stations, along with the remaining 65 stations, supply more than 20% of the province’s total power generating capacity.

PowerON looks forward to welcoming you at their booth and answering any questions about their largest electrification portfolio of projects in North America.
