Recently, PowerCo Canada has officially launched its first job recruitment campaign for what will be the country’s largest-ever electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing plant, located in St. Thomas, Ontario.

The start of recruitment marks a significant milestone for the project, local economy and the community, as PowerCo seeks to fill hundreds of well-paying jobs in this initial phase and will eventually create thousands of jobs when the plant is fully operational.

The significant $7 billion investment by PowerCo in the state-of-the-art facility reflects PowerCo’s unwavering confidence in the project and commitment to building meaningful, long-term careers for local and national talent. PowerCo will break ground on the St. Thomas gigafactory in the coming weeks, with initial production anticipated in 2027, followed by a demand-based ramp up. This recruitment campaign builds on PowerCo Canada’s rapid growth to date, having more than doubled its workforce to over 200 employees in just the past year.

“This recruitment campaign is a pivotal step forward as we move closer to breaking ground on what will be Canada’s largest EV facility once completed,” said Norman Wickboldt, Chief Human Resources Officer at PowerCo Canada. “Electrified transportation is the future, and these jobs offer long-term opportunities for Canadians to be a part of an exciting and innovative clean energy industry.”

To help pioneer the next generation of EV battery production in St. Thomas, PowerCo is actively recruiting for a wide variety of roles, including chemists, Information Technology professionals, engineers, and sustainability experts. PowerCo is deeply committed to local hiring, leveraging Canada’s existing skilled workforce, however possible.

In the coming months, PowerCo will significantly expand its recruitment efforts through a multi-channel, province-wide advertising blitz, including physical billboards in St. Thomas and London, to connect with industry professionals, graduates and jobseekers eager to be part of Ontario’s clean energy future and build a career with PowerCo.

“This isn’t just an economic boost; it’s a fundamental transformation for our community. We’re proud to be the home for this exciting new chapter in Canada’s burgeoning EV battery manufacturing sector,” said Joe Preston, Mayor of St. Thomas. “This recruitment campaign opens the door to new, high-quality jobs for residents and opportunities to build lasting careers right here in our community.”
