A look back at almost one year ago:
NFI Group Inc., a leader in propulsion-agnostic bus and coach mobility solutions, along with its subsidiary New Flyer Industries Canada ULC (New Flyer) welcomed The Right Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada to its Winnipeg manufacturing facility on April 1, 2025.
During his visit, Prime Minister Carney toured the Winnipeg facility, witnessing first-hand how New Flyer brings innovative mobility solutions to life. The visit also highlighted New Flyer’s expansion efforts, which will allow for the manufacturing of complete heavy-duty transit buses in Canada for the first time in nearly 15 years. Full bus production is expected to start in September 2025.
“This expansion is not just about building buses – it’s about building a stronger, Canadian manufacturing sector and creating additional skilled jobs,” said Paul Soubry, President and CEO, NFI. “We are grateful for the support and financial investment from both Prairies Economic Development Canada and the Government of Manitoba, as we work toward delivering full buses built in Canada.”
The Prime Minister’s visit underscored Canada’s commitment to strengthening domestic manufacturing, creating quality manufacturing jobs, and advancing sustainable transportation. New Flyer’s expansion is set to increase production capacity, adding new direct skilled jobs to the Canadian economy – further reinforcing the depth of New Flyer’s workforce across North America.
“It is an exciting time at New Flyer as we support investments in North American public transportation that will result in the rollout of new buses to reduce congestion, improve air quality, and drive economic growth,” said Chris Stoddart, President, North American Bus and Coach. “Our Canadian expansion enhances our ability to deliver for all our customers as it strengthens Canadian manufacturing and increases production capacity within our U.S. facilities.”
With a legacy of delivering innovative transit solutions, NFI continues to lead the industry in propulsion-agnostic bus and motorcoach manufacturing, shaping the future of sustainable public transit in Canada and beyond.
